This blog is for Alex Fields from the College of Athens, but read it if you’d like!

I have loved being in a different country. The sounds, the smells, the new currency, the buildings, the language, the personas, etc. It is just so beautiful to observe and learn from, and it is just so beautiful. I have been on some mission trips in the past which were just beautiful and I am so grateful for each of them, but before the World Race, I didn’t realize the beauty of sharing the gospel like this to the nations. I love that it is meeting people where they are, and having these relationships grow thanks to Jesus. Before this trip, I didn’t think about the evangelism piece of things and have grown to love going to someone’s house without knowing anything about them, but automatically loving them. I have always had a heart for people but since being here my heart has grown and I have learned what it looks like to share the love of Jesus both by words and just being a smile to someone. An example is in a house visit where I got to sit in communion over coke and encouragement (“animo” in Spanish) and just relate to my new friend Joanna as she leads a ministry in a hard part of town. It is so weird to see my life back home as rushed and busy, while here is laid back and super relational. It is the place I think all humans are supposed to be, but we get so distracted by where we “need to be”. I have loved the daily lifestyle of loving each other and conversation here, and it is such a blessing to be able to step into their day-to-day and do what they do. Another example is in the kitchen here on our base. I love the kitchen ladies and speaking Spanish, so I find myself back there often helping with the meals. It’s so cool to watch how they prepare food, make decisions, what they cook, etc. It is beautiful to be a part of their life and also encourage and uplift them…if they don’t encourage and uplift me first. 😉
